Premier League Champions Manchester City have been interested in several players this summer and reportedly the latest one was Newcastle United’s Sven Botman.

City attempted to make a move for the Netherlands international before they turned their focus to RB Leipzig centre back Josko Gvardiol but they were told that there was no chance that they could sign Botman.

Newcastle told the treble winners that he is not for sale for any price so City decided to move on from the 23-year-old and not waste their time attempting to start negotiations.

Botman had a great season contributing hugely to Eddie Howe’s side getting Champions League football and he will continue to be first choice going into the 2023/24 campaign.

City quickly turned their attention to Gvardiol and they look set to sign him even though a deal between the clubs hasn’t been agreed just yet but there is a verbal agreement between the player and City.

Aymeric Laporte has been linked with an exit so there will be even more need for City to get a left sided centre back in due to Pep Guardiola sticking with the system which consists of four central defenders at the back.

Matteo Kovacic has been the only incoming for Manchester City so far this window as they have only officially lost Ilkay Gundogan on a free to Barcelona but several players have been linked with exits from the club as Guardiola weighs up what to do with pre-season fast approaching.
