Liverpool played out a topsy-turvy 4-4 draw with Greuther Furth as the pre-season tour of Germany came to an end.

Jurgen Klopp named a strong lineup with new signing Alexis Mac Allister given his first start whilst Dominik Szoboszlai missed out as a precaution with an ankle problem.

A fluid first-half performance saw Liverpool take a 1-0 lead into the interval after Luis Diaz scored a fine individual goal in the 22nd minute.

Diogo Jota was one of the players who impressed during the opening 45 and he should have made it two moments later when he pounced on a mistake to fire wide.

He was nearly on target again towards the end of the half but smashed the inside of the post from a very tight angle.

Klopp made 11 changes at the break and the scores were level in the 47th minute when Adrian played James McConnell into trouble and Julian Green fired home.

Liverpool were back in front three minutes later however when Mohamed Salah linked up with Darwin Nunez who finished well after rounding the keeper.

The Uruguayan made it 3-1 nine minutes later, coolly slotting home after Salah had played him in again.

More suspect Liverpool defending however allowed Furth to level within 15 minutes thanks to goals from Lukas Petkov and Armindo Sieb.

In the 77th minute, Sieb was on target again to make it 4-3, firing home a low drive past Marcelo Pitaluga who had just replaced Adrian in goal.

The Salah/Nunez combination was one of the main Liverpool highlights from the game and they were on hand again to save the Reds’ blushes in the 89th minute when the Egyptian volleyed home the striker’s cross at the far post.

Nunez nearly completed a fine hat trick in injury time but saw his header well saved by the Gruth keeper before the referee brought an end to proceedings.

Liverpool now return to the UK before heading off on a tour of Singapore on Thursday as they step up their pre-season preparations ahead of the new campaign.
