Roberto De Zerbi has expressed his flattery at being linked with clubs such as Liverpool as the search for Jurgen Klopp’s successor continues.
The Brighton manager has been mentioned as a potential candidate to replace Klopp at the end of the season due to the impact he has made in such a short period in England.
De Zerbi replaced Graham Potter in October 2022, with his debut match against the Reds resulting in a thrilling 3-3 draw at Anfield. Since then, he has proven to be a significant success at the south coast club.
Last season, the 44-year-old played a crucial role in guiding Brighton to a commendable sixth-place finish, just one position behind Liverpool.
This season, his managerial prowess was further evident as his team topped their Europa League group, which included formidable opponents such as Ajax, Marseille, and AEK Athens.
“When I listen that the big teams are interested in me, it is an honour and makes me proud,” he told Sky Sports. “My focus is the work day by day.
“About the future, I’m going to speak with the owner and the club because I want to compete in the best way I can. I want to understand their plan and then it is not a problem to work in a big, big team.
“I would like, in my career, to compete to win the Premier League, Serie A, Bundesliga, La Liga, Champions League. There isn’t a time when you have to go to compete or you have to wait for something in more time.”
He added: “I love my country. I love Italian football. For sure, one of my targets is to go back to work in my country.
“I don’t know when the time is. I feel well in the Premier League. I have to say thanks to Brighton for living in the UK. The problem is not where you work, the problem is how you are working.”
