Over the years, Liverpool have made a habit of signing players from clubs who have just been relegated from the Premier League.

In 2016, Gini Wijnaldum was signed from Newcastle United. A year later, Andy Robertson moved to Anfield from Hull City before Xherdan Shaqiri was brought in from Stoke City the following summer.

Jurgen Klopp’s squad is going through significant change, particularly in midfield, where there has been a huge turnover of players.

Whilst some of the midfield departures were expected, the loss of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to Saudi clubs was not in the script this summer.

Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai have been bought in to soften the blow and Southampton’s Romeo Lavia could follow them through the door at Anfield in the coming days.

Further reinforcements are needed however and should Liverpool choose to follow the familiar path of raiding relegated clubs, they need look no further than Leeds United for Tyler Adams.

The USMNT player joined the Elland Road club a year ago and impressed in his first season in the Premier League before a hamstring injury brought an abrupt end to his campaign.

According to The Athletic, the versatile 24-year-old has a relegation release clause of around £20million but is unlikely to be fit until after the transfer window has closed.

The Transfer Room Verdict on Tyler Adams

Adams is equally comfortable in the centre of midfield and at right back which would appear to make him someone of interest to Liverpool.

Whilst his age, playing style, and price are likely to appeal to the Anfield hierarchy, his injury record and the fact that he will not be fit for at least two more months probably means this one should be ruled out.
