In the midst of ongoing transfer speculations, it appears Liverpool are unlikely to pursue the acquisition of midfielder Cheick Doucoure from Crystal Palace this summer, according to Evening Standard.

Reports from a prominent daily newspaper suggest that the Reds have been deterred by the steep £70m price tag set by Crystal Palace for the talented midfielder. Despite Liverpool’s interest, Palace remains resolute in their valuation of the player.

Cheick Doucoure, a 23-year-old midfielder, had initially garnered attention from Paris Saint-Germain earlier in the summer transfer window.

However, it was Liverpool, guided by Jurgen Klopp, who entered the scene with interest in the Mali international. Doucoure made the move to Selhurst Park just last year from Lens, with an initial transfer fee of £21m

Although Doucoure still has four years remaining on his current contract with Crystal Palace, there have been indications that he could be open to a potential move to Anfield this summer.

His performances on the field have been commendable, featuring in 35 matches and providing three assists across various competitions. His contributions played a pivotal role in Crystal Palace’s commendable finish above Chelsea, and he was rightfully awarded the title of Palace’s Player of the Season.

In recent developments, Doucoure was notably absent from the matchday squad for Crystal Palace’s Carabao Cup victory over Plymouth Argyle. This absence has fueled further discussions about his potential departure.

Liverpool have faced setbacks in their pursuit of midfield reinforcements, having lost out on both Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, who ended up moving to Chelsea.

These departures came despite Liverpool having reportedly reached agreements with Brighton and Southampton respectively. With the departure of key midfielders including Jordan Henderson and Fabinho, Jurgen Klopp is keen on revitalizing his midfield options.

A slew of midfield prospects have been linked to Liverpool in the transfer market, including names like Ryan Gravenberch, Aurelien Tchouameni, Joshua Kimmich, Kalvin Phillips, and Sofyan Amrabat.

During this summer transfer window, Liverpool has already concluded deals for midfield additions such as Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Wataru Endo. Despite these acquisitions, the club remains committed to securing at least one more midfielder before the transfer window closes on Friday.
