Liverpool defender Nathaniel Phillips is attracting interest from Middlesbrough and Stuttgart, as reported by the Daily Mail.

The Reds appear willing to part ways with the 26-year-old before the imminent closure of the transfer window on Friday, given that he is surplus to requirements in Jurgen Klopp’s plans.

Phillips finds himself lower down in the pecking order at the club, with prominent figures like Virgil Van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Joel Matip, and Joe Gomez ahead of him. Throughout the previous season, he featured in merely seven matches for Liverpool, managing a single assist across various competitions.

With his absence from Liverpool’s current season matchday squad, speculation arises that a departure from Anfield might be on the horizon.

Having progressed through the club’s academy, Phillips integrated into Klopp’s senior squad back in 2018. During the 2019/20 season, he embarked on a loan spell with Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart, amassing 22 appearances and contributing one assist across all competitions.

In addition, Phillips has gained experience through a loan stint at Premier League outfit Bournemouth.

His significance came to the fore in Liverpool’s campaign to secure a spot in the Champions League during the 2020-21 season, notably stepping up due to injuries sustained by Virgil Van Dijk, Joel Matip, and Joe Gomez.

To date, the English defender has made a total of 29 appearances for Liverpool, contributing to two goals.
