In their first home game of the season Liverpool came from behind against Bournemouth to pick up their first three points of the Premier League season.

It was a awful first ten minutes from Liverpool as they could have been two down but thanks to a late offside call it was only one after Antoine Semenyo’s finish.

However after their sloppy start the Reds dominated the game with Luis Diaz getting the equaliser with an exquisite effort.

Salah gave the Reds the lead in the first half after he scored the rebound from his missed penalty.

The second half was all Liverpool until Alexis Mac Allister was very harhsly sent off but shortly after the red Diogo Jota got the third for Anfield to enjoy.

Alisson had to make a couple of fantastic saves late on to ensure the three points were Liverpool’s.

Alisson Becker: 7.5

One of the worst starts to a game from the Brazilian in a long time. Came rushing out of his goal when he didn’t need to in the first minute to give an open goal to Anthony but luckily for Liverpool he was deemed offside. Couldn’t do anything about the goal but shortly after Bournemouth went ahead he gave the ball away so poorly and had to take a yellow card after giving away a free-kick due to his panicking slide tackle. Safe hands to stop Semanyo’s effort at the end of the half. Made up for his errors with a ridiculous reaction save to deny Justin Kluivert late on in the game. Tipped over an effort in injury time from Hamad Traore then made a fantastic effort at full stretch from Traore again. So even though he had a woeful start he was still vital for the Reds getting three points.

Trent Alexander-Arnold: 6

Went one better than Alisson by making the error which led to the goal after he casually lost the ball in such a dangerous area. Grew into the game after that moment of madness and had an effort tipped over the bar by Neto. Just before half-time he another effort saved by the goalkeeper at his near-post in a much better position. Good attacking threat in the first half. Picked up an issue in the second half and received treatment when he was taken off.

Ibrahima Konate: 7

Every time he was one on one with Dominic Solanke he had the better of him really authoritative performance. Be disappointed that he didn’t do better with a headed chance in the first half. Sloppiness on the ball though did present Solanke with a half-chance but again he came out and closed him down straightaway to make sure his effort was wayward.

Virgil Van Dijk: 8

Couldn’t have done much to prevent the goal as the strike went through his legs before finding the back of the net. Very unlucky that he did not get Liverpool’s equaliser briefly after they conceded as his header from a corner hit the bar. Just before the half-time whistle he should have done much better with a free header from another corner.

Andy Robertson: 7

After some recent criticism in the new hybrid role on the left of the defence he was much better all round. Solid at the back throughout as he showed calmness and also in attack his corner deliveries seemed much improved as he should have got an assist with Van Dijk’s and Konate’s headers.

Alexis Mac Allister: 6

Clear to see that in possession he is everything that Liverpool have been crying out for but he is not quite what is required in the defensive midfield which is unlikely to be his main position. Joy to watch on the ball made Liverpool dictate play in the second half until he got showed a red card. Never should have been a red card as his studs weren’t high and it was a 50/0 challenge.

Cody Gakpo: 5

Struggled to really get involved as much as he usually does when he is upfront. Like Mac Allister though it is unlikely that this will be his position for the season. Had a great chance in the second half when he really should have found Jota on his left rather than taking a couple of shots. Was taken off after the Mac Allister red for a defensive figure in the midfield.

Dominik Szoboszlai: 8

Got better as the game went on in the first half with some fine link-up play and quick feet to win the penalty. His speed and agility at his height is something to behold. His long distance effort made the third goal for Jota as well. Just missing a goal to make it a perfect home debut.

Mo Salah: 7

Had a great chance to give Liverpool the lead before the penalty but his touch let him down. Scored the rebound from the penalty but it was his third miss from the spot in his last five attempts. Overtook Steven Gerrard in Liverpool’s all time top goal scorers with the goal. Selfish late on with not his best strike on the edge of the box which was dragged wide when Diaz had made a run. On another day could have had a hat-trick.

Diogo Jota: 7

Showed why he is in the starting line-up with his poacher like instincts for the third goal following up Szoboszlai’s effort for a tap-in. Created another opportunity all by himself which he arguably should have scored but Neto denied him.

Luis Diaz: 8

Ludicrous finish to get Liverpool back on level terms. Jota’s pass was cut out but the ball still came to him inside the box and he flicked it up to fire the ball in the bottom corner, Neto didn’t have time to react. Permanent threat for Liverpool due to no defenders having a clue what he is going to do next. Consistent goals to his game as well is sure to make him one of the best attackers in the division.

Substitutes

Wataru Endo (Cody Gakpo 63): 7

Not the greatest of circumstances for Endo to make his debut as he had to be brought on due to the red card for Mac Allister. Really tidy in possession and helped slow the game down denying Bournemouth any chances to try to mount a comeback. Good showing considering he only signed yesterday.

Joe Gomez (Trent Alexander-Arnold 75): n/a

Was fine in the right-back position as he helped see the game out.

Harvey Elliott (Diogo Jota 75): n/a

No real need for him to make an attacking impact due to the context of the game.

Kostas Tsimikas (Luis Diaz 86): n/a

Darwin Nunez (Mo Salah 86): n/a
