Liverpool are not expected to follow up their interest in Sofyan Amrabat and are not close to reaching an agreement with the Fiorentina midfielder, according to This is Anfield.

The online news portal claims that the speculation he might be headed to Anfield has clearly been fuelled by the Reds’ failure to sign both Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.

Amrabat, who joined Fiorentina from Club Brugge in 2020, has previously been watched and scouted by Anfield officials. It is believed that the 26-year-old is keen on joining Manchester United this summer.

The Merseysiders agreed a deal with both Brighton and Southampton for the transfers of Caicedo and Lavia but both players turned down a move to Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Liverpool saw multiple bids rejected for Lavia by the Saints for the 19-year-old with the latest worth £46m. The South Coast club wanted £50m for the Beglium international but they will pocket more than that.

Liverpool are considering other transfer targets as Klopp looks to bolster his engine room this summer following the exit of five senior midfielders including Jordan Henderson and Fabinho.

The German has already made two signings following the arrival of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, however, Liverpool are expected to at least bring in two more midfielders before the window closes in September.

Ryan Gravenberch, Cheick Doucoure, Boubacar Kamara, and Andre have all been linked with a move to Liverpool in recent days.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are on the verge of completing their third summer signing after agreeing a £15m deal with Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart for defensive midfielder Wataru Endo.

The 30-year-old is expected to undergo his medical on Thursday ahead of his dream move to Anfield.
