Jordan Henderson officially left Liverpool today to join up with former teammate Steven Gerrard at Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq.
The move was a transfer which has been long in the making due to how much time has been spent in negotiations between the clubs.
Finally though Liverpool announced his departure after 12 years at the club and there was several messages of admiration for Henderson.
One came from the manager Jurgen Klopp who took over back in 2015 when Henderson had just been made Liverpool captain after Gerrard left.
Klopp kept him as the club captain and Henderson had the armband throughout his time under the German which he referenced in his message.
“So, the longest-serving skipper for me, I always had long-serving skippers, [Sebastian] Kehl, seven years (at Dortmund), [Dimo] Wache, seven years and three months (at Mainz). You are seven years and eight or nine months, so you won that race as well,” said Klopp.
He has had long-term captains at every club he has messaged but now there will be a change and maybe this could give us a hint at who the next Liverpool skipper will be.
The favourite for the armband is Virgil Van Dijk however at 32-years-old there is doubt whether he would be the captain for a long period of time.
Trent Alexander-Arnold on the other hand is only 24-years-old and should be at Liverpool for least another ten years.
So could the right-back be the preffered choice?
