Liverpool have identified Ruben Amorim and Julian Nagelsmann as potential alternatives if they are unable to secure Xabi Alonso as their next manager in the summer, according to The Telegraph.

Jurgen Klopp will step down from his role as Liverpool boss at the end of the current season and the club’s owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG) are actively searching for a new manager.

Xabi Alonso, who is contracted until 2026 at Bayer Leverkusen is the frontrunner, given his success with the club, who currently tops the Bundesliga.

However, Liverpool face stiff competition for Alonso’s services, with options including staying at Leverkusen or potentially joining Bayern when Thomas Tuchel departs in the summer.

Ruben Amorim is under contract with Sporting of Lisbon for two more seasons after this summer.

While Liverpool are interested in Amorim, bringing him to Anfield would require compensation.

Amorim has brought Sporting back into the title race this season, competing with Benfica at the top, and has gained recognition as one of Europe’s promising young coaches.

His managerial effectiveness is evident in data that measures the value added to a squad in terms of fees and wages spent.

Julian Nagelsmann will be out of contract with the German Football Association after the upcoming European Championships. However, he would only be available after Germany’s elimination from the tournament.

Despite his abrupt departure from Bayern in March last year, Nagelsmann is highly regarded for his coaching performance relative to squad and spending.

This approach mirrors the one that led to Jurgen Klopp’s appointment by Liverpool in 2015, based on his success and managerial capabilities. Klopp had previously been targeted by FSG in 2012.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are in the process of selecting a new sporting director. Will Spearman currently holds the position of director of research for the club.
