Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott has spoken about his ambition to one day be the captain of the club in an exclusive interview with TNT Sports.

The 20-year-old has been at the Reds since 2019 when he joined from Fulham and since then he has played 68 senior games under Jurgen Klopp.

In those appearances he has scored six goals whilst getting six assists and in the 2021/22 campaign he impressed the most before he dislocated his ankle.

At the moment he is battling it out with new signing Dominik Szoboszlai for the the right hand side spot in midfield and he knows he has a long way to go before he has a chance of coming captain.

He said: “I would love to be future Liverpool captain. There’s a long way to go and a lot of learning I need to do to even be in the talk of being future Liverpool captain.

“One thing I want to do is go on the pitch each and every game and just run my absolute heart off and give everything for the badge, everything for the club, the team and the fans.

“I think that’s the bare minimum you can do when you play for Liverpool. Anything below that is deemed not good enough, and that’s exactly what I think about myself.

“I just want to go out there and give it my all. If I come off the pitch not able to walk, so what.

“As I said, I would love to be Liverpool captain one day. We’ve got Virgil and Trent as vice-captain now.

“Those two are unbelievable leaders and both have been through so much together and with this team as well, there’s a long way to go but, hopefully, one day it can come true.”

Elliott came back to training early in the summer after his success with the U21 England squad and has had two appearances of the bench so far this campaign.
