Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Dominik Szoboszlai will undergo further assessment after being sidelined from Liverpool’s visit to Arsenal due to an injury.

Szoboszlai has emerged as a key player in Klopp’s revamped midfield, making a significant impact during his debut season in England. He has contributed five goals and four assists in 28 appearances this campaign.

He missed four consecutive Liverpool games due to a hamstring injury he picked up on New Year’s Day against Newcastle United. However, his return has been impressive as he made an impact by providing an assist in a dominant 5-2 FA Cup victory over Norwich City.

The 23-year-old, who also contributed a goal in the 4-1 victory against Chelsea last Wednesday at Anfield, has unfortunately sustained an injury. Klopp has stated that they will evaluate the severity of his injury before determining the next steps.

The German told Sky Sports pre-match: “Dom felt in the same area, or pretty much a similar area, to where he was injured before.

“Not in the game, he was fine, and then after the game [he felt it] slightly so we had a look at it and there was now no chance for him to be involved in this game.

“We cannot take any risk. We have to wait for further assessment but it was clear that he cannot be involved today. That’s it, pretty much.”

Mohamed Salah remains sidelined with a muscle issue and Kostas Tsimikas. Tsimikas has missed all of the Reds’ fixtures in January due to the broken collarbone he picked up during the 1-1 draw with Arsenal at Anfield in late December.

Wataru Endo will not be available despite Japan’s 2-1 loss to Iran in the quarter-finals of the Asian Cup on Saturday – while Stefan Bajcetic, Ben Doak, and Joel Matip are long-term absentees.

Klopp has made three changes for today’s clash with the Gunners at Emirates Stadium.

Trent Alexander-Arnold returns in defence, while there are also starts for Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch. Thiago Alcantara is named among the substitutes, as well as Darwin Nunez.

Liverpool: Alisson, Gomez, Van Dijk, Konate, Diaz, Mac Allister, Jones, Gakpo, Jota, Gravenberch, Alexander-Arnold.

Subs: Adrian, Kelleher, Thiago, Nunez, Elliott, Robertson, Clark, McConnell, Quansah
