Franck Kessié looks to be one of a raft of talented players, whose contract will expire next year. At his best as a rampaging number 8, he has been one of AC Milan’s top players in recent years.
The midfielder is valued at £49.50 million by transfermarkt, and it’s easy to see why.
Kessié is one of the most well-rounded midfielders playing in Europe today, providing thrust going forward, excellent ball retention, and hard work defensively. He’s exactly the kind of midfielder Jurgen Klopp loves and could slot perfectly into Gini Wijnaldum’s spot.
Liverpool’s midfielders, more than anything are tasked with retaining the ball under pressure and recycling it. This is something the Ivorian excels at, according to FBref, his average passing accuracy over the year stands at 89%. Meanwhile, his dribble success stands at 77%.
This ability, plus his willingness to carry the ball forward would allow him to bring more thrust to the Reds’ midfield. Another bonus for a future career with the Reds would be his age profile.
With Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara both in their 30’s, Kessié at 24 represents a younger option to help carry the Reds into the post-Klopp era.
One issue should Liverpool sign Kessié of course is he would have to leave mid-season for the African Cup of Nations every two seasons. Him, Naby Keita, Mohamed Salah, and Sadio Mane all leaving once every two seasons would be a major issue.
However, given his age profile and obvious talents, he’d represent incredible value. The Reds have of course been linked with 18-year-old Jude Bellingham.
However, while the young Englishman represents a top signing, signing Kessié would bring a proven midfielder and leave funds available for a new forward as well.
Liverpool’s transfer business has always been about squeezing the most out of every pound spent. ‘Free’ transfers are never actually ‘free’, but Kessié still represents the option for yet another bargain signing for Liverpool.
