Manchester United have entered the transfer market for a new left-back, according to a report.

The Red Devils have signed three players this summer but have been well known to be on the lookout for a midfielder and potentially another forward or a defender if Harry Maguire leaves.

However, recent injury news has forced the club’s hand to look at alternatives at left-back. Current first choice in the position Luke Shaw has been reported as injured yesterday (Full story here) and it looks like he could be out for an extended period of time.

That coupled with the already existing injury to Tyrell Malacia means the club have no natural left-backs (At least in terms of senior players) remaining.

The MEN have reported that United are now planning on bringing someone in from another club on a short-term deal to fix the problem. As of now, it is unclear who that may be or how likely it actually is to happen, however.

Alvaro Fernandez is one option in the position, but the 20-year-old has not yet played a game for the first team in a competitive match. He spent last season on loan at Preston North End.

Diogo Dalot, although usually a right-back, has experience in the position and played there during a similar injury crisis last season. The Portuguese scored against Nottingham Forest, United’s next opponents, from left-back in the previous campaign and looks like the most likely choice for now.
