Liverpool are in the market for a replacement for Jurgen Klopp, and according to DaveOCKOP, Wolves manager Gary O’Neil has been interviewed for the soon-to-be vacant position.

O’Neil has impressed with his work at the Midlands club this season, leading them from a team expected to battle in the bottom half of the table to one comfortably positioned with plenty of time left in the campaign.

The Reds have shown a willingness to take risks with managerial appointments in the past, as seen with Klopp, so O’Neil may feature on their shortlist for the summer.

DaveOCKOP claimed that “despite being interviewed for the role, it does not mean that O’Neil is the favourite and/or it’s definite that he will take over from Jurgen Klopp.”

The Reds are poised to conduct interviews and assess various candidates, and Gary O’Neil is still in the preliminary stages of consideration, far from being appointed.

This wouldn’t mark the first time Liverpool have interacted with O’Neil.

He previously spent time at Anfield before transitioning to senior management.

In 2020, O’Neil was named assistant manager for Liverpool’s U23 side before departing to join Bournemouth in 2021.

Given O’Neil’s familiarity with Merseyside from his previous stint, the prospect of relocating to the North West could hold appeal for him.

Whether the 40-year-old manager is prepared for the leap to a higher level remains uncertain, but he has demonstrated a willingness to embrace challenges throughout his relatively brief career.

Upon arriving at Wolves, O’Neil faced a daunting task; he took charge just days before the start of the season after Julen Lopetegui bid farewell despite managing the side throughout pre-season.

With limited funds and several player departures, O’Neil courageously accepted the opportunity to once again manage in the Premier League.
