Pep Lijnders could be set for a reunion with former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson, as it has been revealed that Ajax are interested in appointing the departing Reds assistant manager as their new head coach, according to Liverpool Echo.

Lijnders is poised to depart Anfield this summer as part of a restructuring of the coaching staff, alongside fellow assistant manager Peter Krawietz, manager Jurgen Klopp, and elite development coach Vitor Matos.

Expressing his desire to transition into a managerial role, Lijnders has hinted at the possibility of Matos joining him as his assistant.

Ajax have identified Lijnders as a potential candidate to lead their team next season, with interim boss John van’t Schip stepping in after Maurice Steijn’s dismissal in October following a challenging start to the campaign.

If Lijnders were to return to his homeland, he would once again collaborate with Henderson, who joined Ajax in January after a stint in Saudi Arabia following his unexpected departure from Liverpool last summer.

Lijnders initially joined Liverpool in 2014, initially serving as an Academy coach before progressing to the role of first-team development coach.

His previous managerial experience at Dutch side NEC Nijmegen lasted only five months before his departure in May 2018, after which he resumed his duties on Klopp’s coaching staff ahead of the 2018/19 season.
