Liverpool and Manchester City engaged in a thrilling encounter at Anfield, resulting in a 1-1 draw during Sunday’s Premier League fixture.

John Stones opened the scoring for Man City in the first half, only for Alexis Mac Allister to secure a point for the Reds with an early second-half penalty in this eventful and absorbing clash.

The excitement continued as both teams had goals disallowed for offside, with Luis Diaz and Harvey Elliott falling victim to the ruling. Phil Foden and Jeremy Doku struck the woodwork, squandering opportunities to clinch a decisive victory.

In the dying moments of the game, Liverpool fervently appealed for another penalty when Jeremy Doku made contact with Mac Allister in the area. Despite the protest, the referee waved away the claims, leaving the match level.

This high-quality contest concluded with Liverpool now occupying the second spot in the Premier League standings, trailing Arsenal by goal difference, while Manchester City closely follow, just one point behind.

For an insightful breakdown of the match, Freelance Senior Football Writer, Bence Bocsák(@BenBocsak) is here to provide analysis.

What a game at Anfield. Sum up the performances of both teams.

Bocsák: It was a great game. I thought City might have edged it in the first half. But in the second Liverpool absolutely dominated the match.

Liverpool had several chances to win the game but Luis Diaz couldn’t find his goalscoring boots. Two points dropped for the Reds?

Bocsák: It does feel like it. Especially after the penalty decision. But as you have pointed out, Liverpool also had plenty of chances as well.

How would you rate Liverpool’s title chances considering they have relatively less difficult games as compared with Man City and Arsenal?

Bocsák: I think it’s still certainly possible. Obviously, in some ways, things are out of our control. Now everything is riding on the result of the Arsenal – City game

Can Liverpool win the quadruple or maybe a treble in Klopp’s last season in charge of the club?

Bocsák: Definitely, still possible. Liverpool are still looking very strong in all competitions. And hopefully, more key players will be returning later this month as well.
