Hannibal Mejbri has broken into the Manchester United first-team over the course of the last week or so, and he has set a record in doing so. The Tunisian international is currently the best presser in the entire Premier League.

Erik ten Hag’s philosophy requires players to be aggressive in the press, and Hannibal is that and more. United look like a completely different team with the midfielder in the side.

United are only likely to improve as a side with Hannibal playing, along with the returns of Sofyan Amrabat and Mason Mount. The technical and physical floor of the team increases massively with them profiles at the disposal of the manager.

Hannibal, A Pressing Monster:

Hannibal currently has the most pressures per 90 minutes of any footballer in the Premier League with 100.0 pressures. The closest player to him is another Manchester United player, new signing Rasmus Hojlund with 78.7 pressures. It’s a sign of the way ten Hag wants to play.

The Tunisian also leads the chart for most sprinting pressures per 90 minutes with 14.4. Hannibal covered more distance against Burnley than any player since Erik ten Hag joined the club, and the most since data began being collected in 2019.

United need aggression and pressure in the middle. They’ve been too easy to play against and through this season, but Hannibal makes a huge difference. Erik ten Hag knows how important he can be in certain games.

It’s expected the likes of Hannibal and Dan Gore will get some good minutes this season. They are part of the best academy bunch since the days of the class of 92. Kobbie Mainoo coming back soon only further rubber stamps the true class of that crop of players.

A good start for Hannibal Mejbri, and long may it continue in a red shirt.
