Liverpool’s potential move for Chelsea defender Levi Colwill may encounter obstacles early on, as the club have taken a firm stance against his sale, according to Anfield Watch.

The online news outlet claims that Chelsea are unwavering in their decision not to part ways with the England U-21 international, signaling a potential roadblock for the Reds’ pursuit.

The West London club are rumoured to dismiss any offers for Colwill, intending to retain the promising youngster within their squad for the foreseeable future.

Last summer, Colwill was linked with a move to Liverpool after a successful loan spell at Brighton, where he contributed to the team’s qualification for the Europa League with 17 Premier League appearances.

Despite interest also from Tottenham, the 20-year-old chose to extend his stay at Chelsea, signing a new six-year deal with an option for an additional year.

Having joined Chelsea at the age of eight, Levi Colwill progressed through the club’s youth ranks and spent the 2021/22 season on loan at Huddersfield, amassing 29 Championship appearances and helping the team in reaching the play-off final.

His notable loan stint at Brighton last season contributed to England Under-21s’ triumph in the European Championship – their first in 39 years.

He has been a significant contributor for Chelsea this season, making 26 appearances and providing two goals under the management of Mauricio Pochettino.

Despite Chelsea sitting in ninth place in the Premier League after a slow start, Colwill has been a consistent performer.

Liverpool remain interested in Colwill as Jurgen Klopp seeks to strengthen the defense, especially with the imminent expiration of Joel Matip’s contract at the end of the season.

Matip has been sidelined for the remainder of the season due to an ACL injury sustained in Liverpool’s 4-3 victory over Fulham on December 3.

As of now, there have been no reported negotiations between the club and Matip, signaling his impending departure from Anfield in the summer.

In their pursuit of defensive reinforcements, Liverpool have been linked with several players, including Leny Yoro from Lille, Jean-Clair Todibo from Nice, Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen, Kevin Mantill from Telleres, and Facundo Gonzalez, who is currently on loan at Sampdoria from Juventus.
